From Connection to Impact: Highlights from Youth Beyond Borders
On 15-16 August, the JA Asia Pacific Regional Alumni Board brought together emerging leaders from across the region for the Youth Beyond Borders Workshop in Singapore. Over two dynamic days, Junior Achievement (JA) alumni from Hong Kong SAR, Malaysia and Singapore gathered to learn, connect, and collaborate, strengthening a regional network united by leadership, innovation, and a shared commitment to creating positive impact.
This first regional gathering organized by the board provided a unique platform for alumni to develop essential leadership and communication skills, engage in meaningful discussions about global challenges, and build lasting friendships that extend beyond borders.

Day 1: Learn, Connect and Lead
The gathering began with a welcome lunch that quickly transformed introductions into conversations and conversations into connections. Alumni had the opportunity to meet peers from across Asia Pacific, setting the stage for two days of learning and collaboration.
Participants then took part in the Global Executive Presence Foundations session, where they explored how to communicate with confidence, build rapport, and engage effectively across diverse cultural contexts. The session was facilitated by Abdul Malik Anwar Deen, a leader whose diverse journey across public service, law firm leadership, and global causes exemplifies the power of purpose-driven storytelling. Through practical exercises and interactive discussions, participants strengthened their ability to present themselves with authenticity and impact in professional settings.
The afternoon continued with a Listening Lab as part of the World Youth for Action initiative conducted by Sarah Rapp and Erin Sawyer from JA Worldwide. Alumni exchanged perspectives and shared their aspirations for the next generation of global goals, demonstrating the passion and commitment that define the JA community.
To conclude the day, participants tackled real-world challenges during the Negotiation and Persuasion Workshop led by the Regional Alumni Board President, Matthew Hui. Through a highly interactive simulation, they navigated competing interests, formed alliances, and worked toward consensus under pressure. The experience provided valuable insights into leadership, strategic thinking, and effective communication in complex environments.
Day 2: Meet, Explore and Connect
Day two began with an exclusive networking opportunity during Breakfast with Leaders at the historic Singapore Cricket Club, hosted by JA Asia Pacific’s President and CEO, Dr. Vivek Kumar. The intimate setting provided alumni with the opportunity to engage in candid conversations with experienced professionals, gain practical career advice, and learn from real-world leadership journeys.

Following the networking session, participants explored Singapore through a series of sightseeing and cultural activities, deepening their appreciation of the city's rich heritage and vibrant multicultural environment.
The weekend concluded with experienced JA alumni welcoming new alumni from eight different countries and territories at the historic 20th FedEx/JA International Trade Challenge (ITC).
Participants of the “Youth Beyond Borders” formally shared their JA journeys and introduced the power of JA’s alumni network. They also conducted ice-breaking activities to warmly welcome the ITC Asia Pacific finalists, helping them connect with fellow participants and preparing them for the exciting competition ahead.
Building a Stronger Regional Alumni Network
Throughout the event, alumni strengthened their executive presence, honed their negotiation and persuasion skills, and developed greater confidence in communicating across cultures. More importantly, they built meaningful relationships with peers and leaders from across the Asia Pacific region.
"Youth Beyond Borders" demonstrated the power of bringing young leaders together to learn from one another, exchange perspectives, and cultivate a sense of belonging within a global community. It was magical at the Celebration Dinner of the 20th FedEx/JA International Trade Challenge to have Asheesh Advani, President and CEO of JA Worldwide, officially induct all the finalists present as JA alumni.
As the JA Asia Pacific alumni network continues to grow, these moments and connections will serve as a foundation for future collaboration, leadership, and impact.
