Guinness World Record for Generative AI Innovation set in Indonesia by AWS in partnership with PJI

Jakarta, October 2025 — JA Asia Pacific is proud to celebrate Prestasi Junior Indonesia (JA Indonesia) and the partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) in setting a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® title for the “Most Applications Made in an On-site Generative AI Event.”

This remarkable achievement showcases the incredible potential of Indonesia’s youth when innovation, education, and technology come together. A total of 10,821 unique Generative AI (Gen AI) applications developed by students and teachers across 21 high schools in West Java were recorded in one day.

Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure & Regional Development, said,

"Today, our students in West Java have made history by breaking a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD. When we give our young people the right tools and training, they can do incredible things on the world stage. This record is more than just a number. It shows that Indonesia is becoming a powerful force in the world of technology."

The record-setting event was conducted under Guinness World Records’ rigorous verification process, ensuring each Gen AI application was both functional and unique, and was certified by an official adjudicator on-site.

The initiative represents the culmination of a year-long collaboration between Prestasi Junior Indonesia (PJI), AWS, Alkademi Foundation, and Yayasan Sagasitas Indonesia, aimed at preparing young Indonesians for a digital future powered by artificial intelligence.

Empowering Indonesia’s Next Generation of Innovators

Throughout the program, students explored the creative and responsible use of AI through hands-on learning and project-based activities. They developed innovative Gen AI applications, from project management assistants to personal carbon footprint trackers, demonstrating both creativity and technical skill.

The record attempt was made at the end of a program conducted to train students in developing applications. On October 13, 2025, participants worked simultaneously from their schools and the Amazon Think Big Space located at State Vocational High School 1 Karawang. Students brought forward pre-conceptualized app ideas, identifying prompts, widgets, and functions, while teachers and non-profit staff turned the ideas to life by inputting them into PartyRock, an Amazon Bedrock playground.

Robert Gardiner, Academic Advisor and Operations Counsel of Prestasi Junior Indonesia (PJI) said that

“This recognition from GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS represents a remarkable milestone in our collaboration with Amazon Web Services to advance digital literacy and innovation among Indonesian youth. Through this initiative, students and teachers in West Java have demonstrated their ability to apply generative AI responsibly and creatively, contributing to Indonesia’s growing capacity in emerging technologies.”

Junior Achievement’s Strategic Priorities

This collaboration with AWS directly advances Junior Achievement’s global strategic priorities to “Partner for Impact” and “Accelerate Digital,” which seeks to expand reach and accessibility through collaboration and innovative delivery models.

JA is committed to:

  • Expanding access to technology education using direct-to-youth channels that reach students beyond traditional classrooms;

  • Tailoring content to the local context to ensure inclusivity and relevance; and

  • Integrating emerging technologies, including AI, into programs that prepare students for the digital economy.

By leveraging AI tools and cloud-based learning environments, PJI aims to democratize access to digital education, ensuring students from diverse backgrounds can build skills in creativity, critical thinking, and responsible innovation through programs such as STEM Capacity Building and JA Raise. This aspiration is most successful in partnership with companies like AWS, who have a similar commitment to prepare young people for a digital future.

Adnan Bokhari, Interim President and Chief Executive Officer of JA Asia Pacific said,

“This world record achievement exemplifies what young people can accomplish when they have access to opportunities. As a youth-serving organization, JA is expanding access to transformative technologies like AI to equip young people for the future of work. By partnering with organizations such as AWS, we are proving that collaboration between education and industry can produce scalable, meaningful change preparing youth not just to participate in the digital economy, but to lead it.”

A Milestone for Indonesia’s Digital Transformation

The GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® title is not only a celebration of youth creativity. It is a symbol of Indonesia’s growing leadership in the digital era.

According to AWS, over 1 million Indonesians have been trained in cloud computing skills since 2017, with new initiatives now expanding into artificial intelligence education. This record-breaking effort reinforces Indonesia’s commitment to becoming a regional hub for innovation and a model for responsible AI adoption in education and workforce development.

Jaime Vallés, Vice President and General Manager for Asia Pacific & Japan, AWS, shared,

“The future of innovation across the Asia Pacific region lies in democratizing access to transformative technologies like generative AI. This record-breaking achievement by over 2,600 students and educators demonstrates what’s possible when we empower young builders to think big and embrace technology together.”

Building a Future Where Technology and Education Meet

For Prestasi Junior Indonesia, this milestone is more than a single day of achievement. It is part of a long-term mission to nurture future-ready youth. The collaboration with AWS exemplifies how strategic partnerships can help scale impact, enhance program quality, and accelerate digital inclusion. Gardiner acknowledges those involved in the program and record attempt:

“We extend our appreciation to all participating schools, educators, and the Prestasi Junior Indonesia team whose dedication and commitment made this achievement possible.”

By embedding AI and cloud technologies into education, PJI is helping students not only gain employability skills but also develop a mindset of lifelong learning, essential traits for success in an era defined by rapid technological change.

As PJI continues to expand its reach and leverage emerging technologies, the organization remains guided by JA’s global vision: empowering young people to have the skillset and mindset to build thriving communities.
