Unveiling the Impact: Highlights from the First-Ever Asia Pacific JA Alumni Conference

The event was hosted by PJI Alumni from 5-8 September 2024 in Bali, Indonesia with the support of JA Worldwide, JA Asia Pacific, Prestasi Junior Indonesia (PJI), JA Asia Pacific Alumni, and Edukuri.inc

A total of 58 participants from 8 markets: Guam, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore gathered in Bali for the first-ever regional gathering of this sort. The RISE Conference aimed at Reuniting, Inspiring, Sparking new ideas, and Engaging with the JA Asia Pacific community. The Asia Pacific region is recognized as one of the most culturally, ethnically, and linguistically diverse in the world, making this conference a significant milestone in JA's history.

The Prestasi Junior Indonesia (PJI) Alumni organised this in-person conference to begin building an alumni community in the region, promoting global citizenship and collaboration across borders. Recognized for their efforts that have significantly impacted the global alumni community through both virtual and in-person initiatives, PJI Alumni were awarded the Global Citizen Award at the EMERGE Global Alumni Summit in Portugal in August. Led by President Stevia Anlena Putri, who was also recognised in Porto with the Innovation Award for her vision, hardwork and dedication in building an Alumni Committee structure for Indonesia- the largest archipelago in the world to form a single state.

The 3-day conference covered a wide range of topics:

  • JA Alumni Community Builder Course (by JA Worldwide),

  • Diversity & Inclusion (by PJI Alumni Greater East),

  • Embracing Teamwork (by PJI Alumni Vice President),

  • Cinematic Storytelling (by Edukuri.inc),

  • Design Thinking (by PJI Board Member, Reno Rafly),

  • Vision 2030: A Journey Through the SDGs (by Stevia Putri),

  • announcement of the COP29 JA Video Showcase (by JA Asia Pacific), and

  • a panel sharing of their Alumni Journey.

There were also fun structures and activities to develop stronger bonds between alumni like buddy groups, a city tour, beach side activities, group video creation, as well as cultural Master Classes on Balinese Traditional Dance, Javanese Calligraphy, Indonesian Traditional Games and Balinese Traditional Clothing.

The RISE Conference brought together participants from different markets in the Asia Pacific region who have been inspired to commit furthering the JA Alumni community building effort through mentoring and volunteering, interest groups, the GATHER platform, etc.; to focus on career exploration and growth, internships and mentorship for JA Alumni; to support student submissions beyond the ideation stage, towards incubation; as well as to collect and share Alumni stories. The conference concluded with a Gala Dinner sponsored by JA Asia Pacific with Maziar Sabet, the President and CEO in attendance, along with a member of the Board of Directors for PJI, Reno Rafly. Participants are looking forward to this conference being an annual event - who will RISE as host next year? See you then!
